How to increase your chances of having a paper accepted at
MSVVEIS...
Through the different editions of our workshop we have seen that many
authors who could have been in the position of making an interesting
contribution to our community missed the chance by not following basic premises
which are explicitly specified in our CFP.
This document is an attempt to highlight the importance of following the
instructions given in the CFP and also to encourage an increase in the quality
of the submissions. When you submit papers to our workshop please take into
consideration the advise given below.
- Follow strictly the instructions given in the CFP (TXT or web
versions) with regards to layout, length etc.
- Length: If the CFP asks for X number of pages, sending more than
that can give a reason to a reviewer not to review the paper and plainly reject
it. In the most favourable case you will be starting with the wrong foot. This
issue seems to be unimportant for some authors but it is actually very important
as we want to make a fair evaluation and using more space than the rest of the
submissions to report on your research is clearly unfair. Equally submitting
very few pages doesn't make you a favor. Even if your topic is interesting,
when compared with other 20 or 30 papers which are well finished and polished
your submission will rank low and will significantly reduce the chances to rank
high enough to be considered for presentation (in any category, be it full paper
or poster).
- Keywords: include at least three key words from the list of "Areas
of Interest" provided in the CFP.
- Layout: pay attention to the layout instructions provided in the
ICEIS' webpages with submission guidelines. A paper that is longer or wider
than allowed will be rejected without evaluation.
- Paper size: final submissions (Camera-Ready Copies) should be
generated in A4 paper and both sources and PDF should be sent to the organizers.
- Categories of submissions: often we consider not only purely
technical papers but also position papers, reports from Ph.D. students, software
demos, etc. Pay atention to the CFP in that regard. If there are such
categories it is worth highlighting that under the title of the paper so that
reviewers are aware of the category of the submission and judge it accordingly.
If in doubt always check with the organizers in advance.
- These are the concepts used to evaluate the
submissions.
- Here there is a sample layout file for
workshop submissions. Do not forget to check the
instructions for submission
provided at the conference website!
- As an example of submissions which scored high in previous editions we give
some examples:
- Please take into account the scope of our workshop. We are interested in
theoretical developments and in interesting applications. If those two elements
are well balanced then the paper is even more attractive to our community
(provided the content is technically sound). A purely theoretical or
application oriented report will still have chances to be considered but it will
not be as easily selected as a submission which addresses both aspects.
